Who we are

Myco Metals is an interdisciplinary business founded by geologists, microbiologists and scientists to address the need for solutions in meeting metal recovery demands for looming energy transition needs.

Our founder, Tony Pfaff, is an exploration geologist, environmental engineer and entrepreneur. In the outback of Australia, he looked at dozens of uneconomic abandoned mine sites rich in metals, regarded as stranded assets. These assets, along with mine waste, are the key to a better future.

It is clear society cannot meet its targets - it takes an average of 17 years from mine discovery to production. Meanwhile, hundreds of historic mine sites remain abandoned while holding valuable metals, often creating pollution problems.

We need to think differently. That’s why we created a revolutionary solution to metal recovery from mine waste using fungal bioleaching (‘Mycoleaching’). This reduces capital expenditure and operating expenditure of mineral processing, extracting and recovering metals using mushroom mycelium (hence ‘Myco’). Recovering metals allows the waste to be ‘cleaned’ - it prevents pollution while generating revenue for the project owners from both the metal endowment and the waste reuse.

Join us on our journey and help us transform the mining industry using mycoleaching.
